Colin Berry did a lot of work on human rights abuses in East Timor. Labour in 1997 promised to stop arms sales to Indonesia. After the election Berry suddenly stopped having any interest in Timor. He had been told "Keep it up and you'll never rise above bank benches." BAe contracts went ahead to Suharto. When I mentioned this to Clare Short my picture was taken by Special Branch.
